Finally - Young Blood on Council!

History was made last week when two Liberal councillors were elected to Lake Macquarie City Council for the first time.

Among the six newly elected councillors was Liberal, Anthony Birt, a 26 year old real estate agent from Cardiff.

The new break-up of council includes two Greens, two Liberals, three Labor, four Independent Lake Alliance (under Greg Piper) and one stand-alone independent.

Councillor Birt said it was the most diverse council in the region, and he was looking foward to an exciting four years working for the people of Lake Macquarie.

As well as the diverse political spectrum, Cr Birt also said there was a much wider demographic of age groups. With councillors as young as 19, 26 and 28, in addition to some councillors of retirement age, there was "a healthy balance of experience and youthful enthusiasm", said Cr Birt.
